Don't Get Ripped Off
When you step onto the car lot to buy your next car, you are about to engage in a tug-of-war. The dealers want to sell a car to you at the highest possible price, while you want to get the best car for the cheapest price. Know what you are getting into before you make your next automobile purchase. Below are tips for buying your next car in Wyoming.
- Check your credit. Before you get ready to make your next car purchase, make sure you know what your credit looks like. If there are any small dings you can clean up, take care of them now. By knowing what your credit looks like, you won't be surprised when you get to the dealership.
- Do your research. Before you purchase a car, make sure you do your homework. Find out how much the car you want is selling for before you arrive at the dealership. Know how much of a down payment you can make, how long you want to pay off the loan, and how much of a payment you want to make. If you research car prices ahead of time, you will know what is a reasonable payment.
- Be ready to walk away. When people are in the market to buy another car, they often get "car fever" and want to buy their new car right away. When they get to the dealership, they take whatever the salesman offers them because they want the car. When you are willing to walk away, the salesman is often more willing to give you a better deal.
- Sell your trade-in yourself. When you trade-in your car, the dealer almost always will give you a lowball offer. You can potentially save thousands of dollars by advertising your car on Craig's list or in the local newspaper and selling it yourself. Unless you absolutely need the low-ball trade-in value for your car, you will be much better off financially if you sell your old car yourself.
- Include the cost of insurance in your budget. Wyoming law requires that you carry liability insurance, but some cars cost a lot to insure. Before you buy your next car, call your car insurance company and ask for a quote on the car that you are planning on buying. The insurance costs might be too high for the car you were planning on buying. Knowing this information ahead of time might make you choose a different car.
